Due to youthful idealism, my first turn through Texas State University concluded in May 2009 and provided me with a BA–Creative Writing and an intimate understanding of post-collegiate uncertainty.
It’s a storied trip, but I kept afloat by accepting positions such as:
– Mattress factory grunt in St. Louis
– Laborer for a canvas tent company in Minneapolis
– Doorman + handyman in Manhattan and Brooklyn
– Bartender in San Antonio
– Taco truck utility knife in Austin
– Offshore oil and gas production operator in Louisiana
– Construction project manager in Austin
After a decade of writing creative non-fiction while working the positions listed above, I returned to Texas State to build a creative portfolio and earn a BS–Advertising.
